Working Actor
You must put in the work.
People ask how I get seem to get so m
any roles, truth be told I don’t except all roles and I’m more careful on the roles I take. I’m not picky, I’m focused on what roles will lead me to my acting goals. I love character development and thrive on becoming someone different than myself. Some people just show up and read lines. If that works for the production I’m generally not interested.
I also have to say I audition more than most people think. I work about five sites online to look for audition opportunities. I have profiles on several and pay monthly/annual fees to submit. I also have an agent that looks for audition opportunities. What’s important to know is I generate 100% of my work. I still have an agent in case I need documents looked at or negotiated on my behalf. My agent sends me auditions so far all commercial work. (which I’m really not interested in)
When I sit down on a day I focus as audition day, I will audition for ten-twenty films. I may receive a callback for one of those. I don’t audition for anything that’s out of my range. I pay attention to what they are looking for and submit accordingly. Most of the films I apply to are out of the area. I know it’s not likely to land a lot of work if they have to fly me in and house me for the duration of the film. But, it happens. I have done several projects in Seattle, Bend etc. Those are drivable and then it’s gas money and hotel.
When I audition, I try to be off book. Never spike the camera (unless it’s that one rare moment) and give two different takes. I always slate myself and make sure my lighting and background is set.
There is not a ton of union work in our community right now, but that changes and I think the best thing we can do is continue to work and be relevant.
I hope that if acting is your goal or dream that you are working or studying.
I will be announcing soon that I will be teaching acting again soon.
Stay tuned or reach out to me if you are interested.
